The drinks your NZ convenience store fridge needs in 2025, and why each one earns its place
Convenience store beverages are one of the few retail categories that rewards genuine curation. The fridge isn't infinite. Every facing is a decision. Decisions based on supplier push rather than customer behaviour tend to show up fast in dead stock.
The following comes from our supply relationships with hundreds of NZ convenience stores. These are the lines that are actually moving.
Bundaberg Ginger Beer, the premium fridge anchor
If you're running a convenience store without Bundaberg in the fridge, you're leaving money on the table. The brand has built real premium positioning in the NZ market, customers associate it with quality and are comfortable paying accordingly. The Original Ginger Beer is the volume driver, but stocking Bundaberg Diet alongside it captures the growing low-sugar demand without cannibalising the original sales.
AriZona Iced Tea, for the 18, 35 demographic
AriZona's 680ml cans have become shorthand for a specific kind of grab-and-go occasion, the afternoon study break, the after-gym drink, the long walk home. The price point, the distinctive can, and the flavour range all contribute to a consistent sell-through profile that's been building in NZ for several years. It's past the trend phase and into the staple phase.
Mogu Mogu, the viral drink that kept selling
A lot of social media-driven food and drink moments are exactly that, moments. Mogu Mogu is different. The nata de coco drink built its NZ following through TikTok but kept it through real repeat purchase. Customers who discover it come back for it. Available in 10+ flavours. For convenience stores with a younger demographic, it's become a range expectation rather than a novelty.
H2 Coco Coconut Water, for health-conscious customers
The natural hydration category is growing steadily in NZ convenience. Customers who want to avoid sugary drinks but need something other than water are actively looking for options. H2 Coco pure coconut water, which Worthy Products distributes exclusively in NZ, sits at exactly this intersection. No added sugar, recognisable format, increasingly familiar brand. The 500ml can and 1L carton give you two price points to work with.
Dr Pepper, the resurgent cult favourite
Dr Pepper's NZ comeback has been driven by social media and sustained by flavour loyalty. The Cherry and Blackberry variants have found their own audiences separate from the classic. For convenience stores that have been slow to stock it, customer requests have probably already given you the signal you need.
Coca-Cola, the anchor you don't skip
Coke doesn't need a case made for it. It needs to be in stock. Stores that run out of Coke on a Friday afternoon are losing transactions they don't even see, the customer who walks in, doesn't find it, and leaves. The margin on Coca-Cola products is thinner than on premium lines but the volume makes it non-negotiable.
Calypso Lemonade, premium flavour, approachable price
Calypso has built a following in NZ convenience through flavour innovation, the range of lemonade variants (Strawberry Lemonade, Watermelon Wave, Peach Pineapple) gives customers something to try and come back for. The bright branding does its own selling in the fridge. Works particularly well in stores near schools and in urban areas.
